Anti-Inflammatory Super Root Turmeric Smoothie

It’s no secret that Turmeric has major benefits to our bodies. When taken everyday it helps to reduce pain, inflammation, reduces risk of brain disorders, lowers risk of heart disease, helps you manage weight, and so much more. It’s truly a super root that should be included in a healthy lifestyle in one way or another! Whether you struggle with IBS/Crohn’s Disease/Other GI Tract issues or just want to benefit your health long term, this supplement and smoothie recipe is for you!

Despite their extraordinary potential, many herbs can have limited benefits due to poor absorption. Our Turmeric Curcumin formula includes BioPerine black pepper extract to improve the bioavailability and benefits of curcumin. Curcumin can only be effectively absorbed by our system when it is combined with piperine. BioPerine has been clinically shown to increase absorption by up to 2000%, making our Turmeric Curcumin more effective than other formulas that do not contain clinically proven bioenhancers.*Our capsules have 5mg of BioPerine per serving.

Oxidative damage is known as a key mechanism behind aging and many various diseases (much like inflammation). Antioxidants are like the superheroes who protect your body from free radicals and their oxidative damage. Since curcumin is a potent antioxidant, it has a unique ability to not only neutralize free radicals but also boost the activity of your body’s own antioxidant enzymes. In these processes, curcumin delivers a dual punch against free radicals by blocking them directly and stimulating your body’s own antioxidant defenses. A WIN-WIN!

Depression, like any other disease, has numerous causes and variants, but the research is promising on curcumin’s role in helping alleviate the symptoms and in some, the cause of depression. According to this small study, curcumin is as effective as an antidepressant. In a controlled trial, 60 people with depression were randomized into three groups. One group took Prozac, another group one gram of curcumin and the third group both Prozac and curcumin. After 6 weeks, curcumin had led to improvements that were similar to Prozac. The group that took both Prozac and curcumin fared best. Depression is also linked to reduced levels of brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and a shrinking hippocampus, a brain area with a role in learning and memory. Curcumin boosts BDNF levels, which can potentially reverse some of these changes. Additional evidence supports curcumin can boost the brain neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine.

Measurements
1 1/4 cups almond milk
1 cup kale or spinach packed
1/4 teaspoon turmeric
1 pinch black pepper
1 tablespoon chia seeds

Other Benefits Packed Within:

Leafy Greens (Kale or Spinach): Turn to kale for vitamins C and K, lutein and zeaxanthin (which may help to protect against age-related macular degeneration and possibly cataracts), and cancer-fighting glucosinolates. Chia Seeds: Loaded with antioxidants, the carbs in these seeds are mainly fiber dense carbs, high quality protein, high in omega 3 fatty acids, great for bones, weight loss, and inflammation.

Flaxseeds: Nutrient dense, high in omega 3 fatty acids, good source of dietary fiber, helps to lower cholesterol and blood pressure, contains high quality protein.

Pineapple: Rich in many nutrients such as Vitamin C and antioxidants, holds cancer fighting properties, enhances weight loss, aids in digestion and respiratory health, helps with inflammation.
